My Korean Inspired Birthday

Birthdays are always special for me. I always make sure that every birthday is memorable, whether it’s mine or someone else’s. And for this year, I’m very happy to celebrate my birthday with those who I love the most. :)

First off, my family, with Laurence and Ara, had a simple dinner at home. We had our usual pancit, my strawberry cake from Tous Les Jours and those yummy 50 pieces Bon Chon wings (gift from Laurence and Kenn! Hooray!).

Since he’s the sweetest boyfriend eveerrr, Laurence, with the help of my brothers and friends surprised me with a bouquet and this thesis-inspired gigantic card. Haha! Thanks love! :)

Fast forward to Sunday. After attending mass, we had dinner at Bulgogi Brothers. I love the place! A bit pricey but everything’s perfect! Same as with other Korean restos, they have refillable side dish. I don’t like their Kimchi cause it’s a bit too sour for me but I love their salad (not sure what’s its name, sorry).

They also have these as side dish. These are also refillable.

I’m not a fan of tea, but I had two servings of their Kyul mungja cha (Casia Seed Tea), which is their tea of the day. In short, bet ko tong tea nila! Sarap!

We ordered two sets of Bulgogi Brothers special and a large Seoul Style Bulgogi. The before pictures:

While eating, we can’t help but reminisce our Korean trip last year. The food makes us wanna go back to Korea soon! Being a kanin lover, I had three bowls of rice that night. Super busog!

They even have Korean Ice Cream! But instead of indulging ourselves with Melona and the like, we chose to buy Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Haha.

I had four celebration for my birthday this year. Haha! One was with my Bonny friends at Vikings, the simple dinner on my birthday night, lunch date with C-girls and our Sunday family dinner. I don’t wanna be old but I’m looking forward for more memorable birthdays! :)

Celle and Ara’s Pre-birthday dinner

03.09.2012 - Vikings, MOA

Yes! It’s March already, meaning it’s my and Ara’s birthday! I can’t believe I’m already turning 22 this 15. I feel so old. But it’s okay, Ara’s still older. Haha. She’s turning 23 this 17 and we decided to celebrate our birthday together this year. It’s been a while since we celebrated our birthday together because she was staying at Dumaguete for the last five years. Anyway, our venue was inspired by our last food trip (see this post). I shall call them my EAYC buddies since our goal is to check out all the buffets and eat-all-you-can restos in the Metro and nearby provinces. Yeah. They’re my matatakaw friends.

Ara, Les and I arrived at MOA around 2pm and we went straight to Vikings to reserve a table for us. We’re already on the waiting list but we didn’t mind. We’re willing to wait for food. Haha. We have to waaaaaaaaalk a long way since Vikings was quite far. Went back to the mall for a drink and saw Kat (Babe! ♥) and talked to her for just a minute. Waited for Kenn, Karla and Laurence to arrive.

Took some pictures before going back to Vikings.

When we got there, we still waited for 30 minutes before our names got called. I was hoping that our table will be on the bay side (sunset, nice view, etc), but we were placed on the other side of the restaurant. Heh.

The first thing that caught my attention was the interior of the place. The tables were big enough, comfy chair and yellow lights (good for picture taking hehe). They have also have this cute shield table numbers.

Their foods were in a long boat-like table, a viking helmet at the end of the table and their maki’s and sushi’s were very pretty and looks yummy in that wooden boat.

Now, the food. Haha. I love their lamb chops with truffle sauce, their sushi’s and their “kaldereta-like” food. The rest are just okay, not bad but forgettable.

My favorite part of the meal, desserts! They have Filipino desserts, cakes, choco fondue, ice creams, and fro-yo! I love their strawberry shortcake and choco cheesecake. I also love their choco fondue. They only have six flavors of ice cream, nothing special. I was quite disappointed with their fro-yo as well.

This is my dessert plate. Too bad. I already ate my cotton candy before taking this pic. Boo.

My EAYC buddies! :)

It was nice to finally meet you Karla (Kenn’s college friend)! Welcome to the gang!

And yes, I would definitely go back to Vikings. Nomnomnom.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Happy 100 years Oreo! :)

I can’t believe Oreos are a hundred year old already. Haha. Anyway, I got this recipe from yahoo and I want to try it! It reminds me of those chewy choco balls SpEd students sell in SSI. :)

TRIPLE-CHOCOLATE COOKIE BALLS

This no-bake treat that looks much more complicated than it really is.

  • 1 pkg. Oreo cookies
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 package JELL-O chocolate instant pudding
  • 12 to 16 Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate squares
  • 4 to 8 Bakers white chocolate squares

In a small bowl, make a paste out of the pudding and the milk. Put 36 of the Oreos into a gallon-size zip-top bag and crush them (with a rolling pin or a mallet). Add the crushed cookies to the pudding mixture and stir will. Form the mixture into small balls and place on a wax-paper lined cookie sheet; freeze them for about 10 minutes.

While they’re in the freezer, place the semi-sweet chocolate squares in a microwave-safe bowl and heat, stirring often, until melted. Dip the chilled oreo balls into the melted chocolate, place them on a fresh wax-paper lined cookie sheet, and refrigerate or freeze for another 10 minutes.

Melt the white chocolate squares, and drizzle the melted white chocolate over the cookie balls using a fork or a spoon. Return them to the refrigerator to harden briefly before serving.

Makes 40 to 45 cookie balls
